HD Remastered games seem to be the majority on what I talk about nowadays. For every new game I review I must review two more Remastered games. Don't get me wrong I love them being a thing I just wish the price wasn't so high. Hello gamers B-rod here to talk about God of War 3 Remastered, or just God of War 3 because very little seemed changed or updated in any fashion. Let us see if this is worth your hard earned 40 dollars.
God of War 3 is all story it is the final chapter to Kratos's revenge against the Gods. I do love this story even if Kratos is more or less a psychotic maniac who is so hell bent on revenge he kills any and everyone. Like some dude who just happens to be in his way and is begging for his life; well Kratos gives him some good ole Spartan hospitality by beating his brains in and killing him. So he is not a relatable character or even a redeemable one not every character needs to be. I will say if you haven't ever played a God of War game but have a PS4 play this. While it is a third entry into an ongoing story you won't be lost. The game recaps everything you'd need to know. On the PS3 I started with this game and it is probably my second favorite in the series. Now this may be me knowing everything to do so I flew through it. The campaign is not long at all. For a story driven game a six hour story is less to be desired. It is a fun six hours but still not much after this story. The story has a definitive ending that has a couple of... well not twist but interesting turns is how I'd like to put it. I'll say I'd be surprised if this game had a direct sequel. The game sound is great the music is so fucking epic, fighting the bosses has me going fuck yeah about 90% of the time. The voice acting is well done even if Kratos only shows about one emotion. I do love characters that are pissed off all the time, because I will never understand constantly being angry. If a God just tried talking to Kratos maybe he'd calm down they'd have a good cry and all would be forgiven. Sorry getting off topic at hand. The games graphics look about as good as they did on the PS3. That's not a slight against the game in fact it is a compliment to the PS3 version on how amazing it looked. I will say those of you who haven't messed around with the screen borders on your PS4 yet, DO IT. Seriously, otherwise you get this black box around the game which immediately pulls me out of any immersion I would have had. The gameplay is a hack n slash game with some fairly simple puzzles in the mix. This combat is so well designed that many games have copied it including a franchise known as Castlevania. That says something there. This game is full of interesting Greek Myth enemies with a ton of boss fights that are all more epic than the next. If you don't like brutal violence or HBO levels of tits just out for no reason well maybe stay away from this game and enjoy some Matlock. The game has this semi metroidvania style to it where you go back to some areas with new equipment and unlock new areas and treats. The puzzles can be annoying, but nothing like the original God of War. I'm looking at you spike floor and spinning blade tower. In the end of it all I love this game and if you're a fan buy it the enjoyment is well worth the 40 dollars. Newcomers borrow from a friend it'll either hook you immediately or put you off instantly either way that in my opinion is the best way to see if God of War is for you. I love this game, but have a hard time telling non-fans to go buy it. I give this a 4/5. If it only had more than a short single player and challenge rooms it'd be a lot higher rating. I leave with one of them questions. Do you gamers think we will ever see a God of War 4?

Go, go crazy Japanese game. Well actually BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma isn't that crazy of a game as it is a ridiculous title. This is the third game in the series and the first I have played. Hello gaming internet B-rod here with one of those wacky reviews that I don't think will be very long because well fighting games don't take a lot to explain honestly. I'll let you all know I didn't spend more than 8 hours with this game so if I missed something I do apologize if I missed some detail, or gameplay element.
This is a fighting game with an actual story. Some may argue that Street Fighter or Tekken has a story, but I mean it has a story mode like Mortal Kombat. Unlike Mortal Kombat this games story doesn't feature much in the realm of gameplay. I played it for over an hour and I didn't fight once. This bugged me because I was enjoying the story I was told, but I want to play a game not just watch still characters talk to each other while it tells me that action happened. The story is complex and cool, and if this was an anime I would definitely watch it, which says a lot because I typically do not care for anime. If what I say isn't an issue for you then the story mode is something to check out, from what I saw it was fairly compelling with some weird as fuck characters. The games looks good. The character design is cool and interesting Japanese. There is weird stupid Japanese that has characters with dumb as fuck hair and zippers everywhere and interesting Japanese where it has that shit but it looks cool. The game does have some female characters that are a bit over sexualized and they do some fan service but nothing extreme. The game is a colorful cartoony 2D fighting game which is a nice change in pace from the 3D that has been the hoopla for a while. The voice acting isn't bad. Unlike most anime style of games this ones voice acting didn't get on my nerves. It had the over acting and characters who had the world's most annoying voice, but it wasn't bad at all nor that irritating. The gameplay is a fairly well balanced fighting game. They had an interesting counter mechanic in it where it will stop a combo and allow the opponent to do one. The game didn't have anything special to it in the way of originality it the fighting. This felt much like an old school Street Fighter with a little more flashy lights. The characters weren't the most unique in the fighting styles; sure there were obvious differences but nothing that popped out to me. The game has a large cast of character to play with and in arcade mode they kinda get a smaller more contained story which I thought was cool. There were other game modes I didn't touch, but that tells me for fighting fans there is enough to this game to keep fighting game fans happy. Overall this was a fun very stress free fighting game. It has a interesting story as long as you don't mind a ton of talking with old style of fighting game mechanics that brings me back to the Sega Genesis. I enjoyed this game quite a bit but not enough to buy it. If you rent this game you'll have a fun weekend, but unless you know this series and enjoy it then I see no reason to ever own it. I give this a 3.5/5. Well gaming community I of course leave with a question. Who has played the first two games? Seriously I've never heard of this series before this game. Oh HD remastered games where'd we be without you? This year I truly believe that Capcom was testing to see which people enjoyed more. DMC or the original Devil May Cry franchise. I previously reviewed the remastered DMC game, and I loved it. I do enjoy the reboot. Playing Devil May Cry 4 Remastered or whatever the fuck they call it seems a bit lacking in the content area. Where are my manors? Hello gamer B-rod here your demon hunting, duster coat wearing gaming reviewer to talk about my opinion on Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition.
Devil May Cry 4 has a story that has two characters Dante everyone's favorite badass quipping demon killing Son of Sparta, and Nero no ones favorite whiny complaining little girly man who cares about this chick who I think said a grand total of five words in the game. This game reminds me so much of Metal Gear Solid 2 with showing fans Dante, and having him present but ultimately having this kinda annoying character be the main focus. The story is about a good 4-6 hours long with some obvious twist and interesting villains. My problem with Nero is not that he can be whiny or has some bad dialog, but in the fact they make him act too much like Dante. Fans of the series all love Dante and in my opinion if you are going to make a game with a new character we don't need another Dante. For fucks sake his design is so close to Dante you could fool people saying that they are related. The story is crazy fun with its anime style of dialog and villains that monologue to death. (literally) Let us be honest who comes to Devil May Cry for the story? Quite a few actually myself included, but still everyone is clearly into...the graphics. Like the transition? Me neither; yet that is how my reviews are structured so yeah. The game looks better than the 360, PS3 version, but not by much. I say it is because it didn't have much to improve on honestly. The only thing they did was make the colors pop more, which for a stylized game like this it is all you really need to do. The game sound is exactly what I said before anime as fuck. The game has always had corny dialog fans of the PS2 games can appreciate that. I personally love the soundtrack to this game. I have no clue what they call the music they play but this industrial fast paced metal music sounds fucking awesome while you are hacking demons to bits. I always loved how this game has a M rating when it is very tame on the blood factor. Yes there is blood, and a couple of bad no, no words but nothing that in my opinion counts for a M rating. The gameplay however is Devil May Cry. For those who may not be aware it is a fast paced hack n slash with timing based combos and no blocking. The fighting is varied enough with the enemies that when they mix up the enemies it brings a new feeling to the fighting. I love how each character feels different. Dante plays how you'd expect very focused on sword, gun and just weapon play. Nero combat is more focused on his demon arm which does cool ass shit with a simple press of the circle button. Vergil who is a playable character now is primarily sword based, and Trish and Lady are mainly gun based combat. The thing that makes me sad while Vergil, Trish and Lady are playable characters you just go through the story without cutscenes. I would really have had hoped for a individualized story even if it was only two hours apiece just to make it seem a bit more worth the 24 dollars. The games biggest and well known sin is the second half of the game is just the first half backwards. That is a huge disappointment and a real cheat, I didn't lose too much enjoyment out of my experience. Overall to the folks who are huge Devil May Cry fans who plays that shit on the hardest difficulty well this game is for you. If you play every character, level them up all the way while on the hardest difficulty you have a good 20 hour game. Of course hardcore DMC player you already own it, but what about the casual Devil May Cry fans or non-fans? I'd say wait, you aren't missing anything special see if it becomes a free game with PS Plus or Live, or if it becomes a disk definitely rent this game it is fun enough for a rental. I have a hard time recommending non-hardcore fans to own this because the game has little replay value to it. I give it a 3/5. I leave with a question I personally have. Is Capcom going to make a DMC 2 or Devil May Cry 5? Batman is back; it has been four years since Arkham City and now it is time for the conclusion to the Arkham games we've all been waiting for. Hello internet B-rod here to talk about Junes biggest release Batman Arkham Knight. I must say Rocksteady are geniuses. Unlike every other major title this is not in any real competition with another triple A title. The only game on my friendslist being played beside Destiny, is Arkham Knight. I'm not here to talk about the sales of Batman but instead mention to you fine folks while this is a fantastic game, Arkham City did it better.
The story in Arkham Knight is fantastic and darker than Nolan would ever dream. This shit is dark. Scarecrow has teamed up with the Arkham Knight to bring Gotham City to its knees and show that the Batman not only can be killed, but has fear. The Scarecrow believe it or not isn't a bad main villain but I still feel he was overshadowed by other villains. The other villains being Arkham Knight and another I won't mention due to spoilers. The mystery of the Arkham Knight is very compelling, and I'll admit eventually I got to the point where I was Arnold from Predator constantly saying, "what the hell are you". I appreciate that the story will take breaks and tell you now is a good time to do side missions. I will say I was slightly disappointed in the lack of a Rogues Gallery of villains. I didn't see some of my personal favorites like Bane or Deadshot, or Mister Freeze. Now that is a nitpick because this is definitely a personal story with Batman. We get deep down into his psyche, and see his slow decent into madness because of Scarecrow. With the twist being fucking amazing having me on the edge of my seat I will mark it down for a grievous offense. When you beat the game to get the true ending you must 100% the game. Fuck that. Seriously Rocksteady I will never go out of my way to find the Riddlers bullshit trophies. I just don't have time for that shit. So yeah Rocksteady next time let the reason to get Riddler trophies be something like 100 gamerscore or a Batman suit to wear not the ending to the game. The voice acting is phenomenal in this game. Hell there is a music number that is so catchy that it was stuck in my head while I was at work. I will say I wish Scarecrows original voice from Arkham Asylum was in this because that shit was cool and not just a rehashed Dr. Strange. The game looks beautiful, the fact you can drive the Batmobile in heavy rain and have it feel like it was raining hard is just fantastic. They will force you to stay out of detective vision which is great so you can just admire the third redesign of Gotham. My issue is with yet again we don't have a Gotham city with civilians. The story has it make sense why none are left, but damn it I want innocent people to save otherwise the basic thugs on the ground are just there to be there because I sure as shit aren't going to fight them. The gameplay is Batman with new toys. That is something I feel like they dropped the ball a bit. The first time you see the Batmobile is amazing, but they force you to use it so much I got very annoyed. I have some very big issues with this Batmobile. The thing is clunky as hell to drive, and the combat they make you do against the drones starts out fun and turns to a Oh fuck you in a hurry. I got very frustrated with this fucking vehicle. The gadgets were more useful in combat; unlike in previous games you kind of need to use them to be effective. The new enemies range from an interesting new enemy like the new heavies, and drone operators to why the fuck are they in this game. The main new enemy I hated was the medic. The medic can bring guys back after you broke 16 bones in their body. In the predator style these enemies are a big of an issue, but while you're in the middle of a brawl with 20 guys these enemies had me cursing at my tv. The games side missions are all multi-tiered. So if you want to go fight Two Face or Penguin you must do about four similar missions before hand just to punch them in the face. That isn't that bad it was just lacking from Arkham City where you randomly find The Mad Hatter. I like this game don't get me wrong it was a helluva lot of fun, and I do feel like while I may not have enjoyed the changes as much it is still better than them just making the exact same game over and over. This is a new experience to the Arkham games that we needed. I'll be honest I almost went into the Dark Knight quote with the Arkham game we may not want but we deserve. I butchered it. Stop Judging me! Overall I may have highlighted more I disliked than I liked, but that's only cause the stuffed I liked were thing common to the Arkham games. I would definitely recommend people buy this game if you're fans of the series. If you are unknown it seriously can hurt to rent it, because the other two games are reference but not necessary to the story. I give this a solid 4/5. I have my problems that keep it from a perfect score, but it is Batman and you gotta love the Bats. I leave with a question. Has any of you wonderful gamers ever done the Riddler trophies and challenges? On these hot summers day what do I do to cool off? I sit down go to an icy Hoth like planet and gaze into the icy cold OH MY GOD THAT THING HAS TENTACLES AND IS TRYING TO EAT ME. Hello good fellow gamers B-rod here and as you can tell with the title I will be reviewing Dead Space 3. I did a review back in 2013 on my own site, and was going to add the audio review to this written one, but it was lost in space and time. Speaking of lost in space Dead Space 3 is a weird one I see in the gaming community. I see that people have a very love hate relationship with this game, and for once I can see why because I too have a weird love hate relationship with this game as well. I'll explain all in the review.
The story for those who have missed the two year old game is about Isaac Clarke is at it again. How can the same shitty mutation flesh eating monsters terrorize this guy for a third time you might think? Well like in the second game he is kind of forced into it. Ellie from the first game is lost and the last remnants of Earthgov are getting Isaac to help find and save her. Of course it is never just a simple saving mission. The story adds a main antagonist with the unitologist leader named Dannik or as many know him as Elton John. I say it is because of his accent and glasses he chooses to wear. He is a weak antagonist, in no way is he ever a real threat to Isaac because Isaac has survived so much at this point that loser is like a Care Bear compared to the shit Isaac has faced. Then the story adds this weak ass love triangle with Isaac, Ellie and asshole soldier guy whose name escapes me at the moment. This is so shoehorned in to add conflict that it takes away from the actual horror you might have felt. For example Isaac just got done killing the necromorphs and you are still a bit tense from the encounter, well now we must have a pissing contest with the hero and asshole military guy. My tense feeling is now filled with boredom and wishing there was a way for me just to skip the scene. The true cardinal sin that this game commits in the story is what I've seen in many third iterations of a game series. It feels a bit rushed to tie everything up. Some companies are so desperate to have that trilogy that they feel like they should end the entire conflict by the third game, but none ever set up this massive ending at the end of the second game. I'll explain; see when you introduced the solution and set off for the solution and then end with it all in one eight hour game that leaves out important plot and character details. While Isaac is a fully developed character the others are not so much so when they are killed off it is like, who cares they had about four lines of dialog. The plot ends up suffering because it is a rush against time instead of just a long journey earned. Regardless the games story isn't the worst thing I personally feel it falls a bit short of glorious, but hey Dead Space has been more about atmosphere than the story. The games sound is all good except for the dialog. Don't get me wrong the voice acting is just fine, but I noticed on my Xbox 360 the dialog seemed a bit grainy. It is something I've noticed with other games on the 360 so I don't fault this one but it is something I feel I should point out. The game looks decent, but with only three new enemies I can think of off the top of my head the monsters we kill are a bit repetitive. The environments are interesting because it is the first time we kill the necromorphs in the sunlight. Which doesn't add any new fear but it was something better than closed tight dark places. The gameplay is Dead Space on cocaine. I say that because they made it bigger and more of fast paced experience. Now that you can build your weapon of dismemberment the difficulty had to be adjusted. Unlike the previous games you don't just fight a handful of monsters; now you fight 10-20 enemies at any given time. They also added a co-op experience which I regret not being able to play, but I hear it is how the game should be played because it adds more and player 2 gets a different experience because he is a more interesting character. The game has side missions you can go on that ultimately are useless if you have a badass death gun 2000 you made. The only reason you do them is to get upgrade material to make your weapons more powerful, but if your weapon is at maximum awesomeness it is just a waste of ammo. The game is the least horror of the series. I've said it many times Dead Space 3 is more of a Lost Planet game than Dead Space. At least in the beginning of the second act where you are on the planet. I say that because that is where you fight giant monsters and have thing explode and crash constantly. The game is about 9 hours long which is a good length for a Dead Space game. It does have a new game plus which is fun and well worth the replay. Overall this may be my least favorite in the series with its plot issues and some gameplay annoyances.( I didn't bring up because it was my skill not the games fault) I would say it wraps up the series with still leaving room for a fourth installment to be born. I give this a 3.5/5. The .5 is because of the co-op and new game plus which adds to the replay value of a game which adds value to the title in my eyes. I leave with a question as usual. Do you fans of the series think there will be a Dead Space 4, and would you want a Dead Space 4? |
