Sniper Elite 3 Review
World War 2 is coming back in video games are you ready? We've had three within the last three months and besides a game that rhymes with smemeny font they have all been good. Sniper Elite 3 is no exception. This game is every person who has ever had a dreamed about being a sniper, wet moist wonderland. That, and those who love seeing a bullet destroy a fully mapped interior body. Before I forget hello folks it is I Brandon your lookout in your sniping fest of a game. I will be explaining the glory of Sniper Elite 3 while pinpointing its flaws, which it has some kind of important ones.
The games story is uh, uhh...I don't know. They have the main character constantly narrating before and occasionally during the mission, but I have no idea what the overall plot was. I guess it was just kill Nazis here, and there, and well if they don't speak english you should kill them. This game has a boring plot to say the least with a character trying to hard to pull off his Kevin Conroy Batman voice it isn't funny. You follow generic white man with a stubble sniper who is in Africa to hunt the most dangerous game. Nazis. Not really; he is there for mission blah blah blah. It would've been amazing if you played as some crazy hunter who was hunting Nazis for sport. Now that'd be a kickass story. But where was I? Oh the story is told through these old film like cutscenes that show like stalk footage of WW2 while your main character talks about your mission objectives. This is much like Sniper Elite V2 in that aspect. The game has more cutscenes but they like the story are pretty worthless. Honestly if you only care about having a rich deep story, then skip this title it will disappoint you.
The gameplay is why people love this series so much. Let me explain how the sniping works. My second shot I fired in this game went slow motion into a Nazis testicles and lets just say there will be no Franz Jr. running around. They will do this slow motion thing anytime you get a critical shot, and you will see the organ it hits. It is marvelous. Now there is much more to this game than that, like stealth. The stealth is good and challenging. I was constantly getting seen or not timing my shots right, or just fuckiing up overall. If you suck at stealth put it on easy and you'll be able to get through this game, and if you are a ninja badass put it on hard and see how you do. The game gives you plenty of sniper ammo which is nice being you have many generations of nazis to eradicate. And it gives you little traps like trip mines and dynamite to just have fun with. The biggest pain in the ass are the vehicles you will have to destroy. Unlike in V2 you can't just shoot the back once to destroy it. You must shoot its weak points many times and be constantly moving or be sneaky enough to plant TNT near it. That was very frustrating but when you do destroy them very satisfying. You won't hear me say this often but the game got a bit stale towards the end. It wasn't bad but the missions are a bit too similar for my taste, if they made it a little shorter it wouldn't have overstayed its welcome like it did for me. There is a multiplayer and a co-op which I didn't dive into but I can imagine both could end up being either amazing or controller breaking maddening.
They got the developers Rebellion back to make this game, and I am so happy they did. They made the game look beautiful, and kept everything fans love the same. I have one question, if this is Africa where the hell are any of the black people? There are no Africans in Africa. I would've loved to help them fight the Nazis out of a village or something. Besides that the gore in this game will give any good American a nice murder boner.
In the end this game is very fun as long as you don't try and blow through it. The gore is amazing as usual, but the story is bland and might as well not even be present. I give this game a 3.5/5. It is fun worth owning just at a discount, not worth the 60$ retail. So fine folks I leave you with a question as usual. What war would you like to snipe in next? I say Vietnam would be interesting with all the jungles and such.
