OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!
BattleBlock Theater is a wonderful feat of electronic light movement. But don't take it from me! Take it from the most cleverly named (and probably handsomest) character ever designed!!! Hatty Hattington
With all the adventuring and fun to be had, BattleBlock Theater is a Great achievement for Behemoth. I dare say that I loved this game more than Castle Crashers. I haven't met a person who didn't love this game, because that is impossible, or as the narrator would say, "I think their heads are filled with horse turds, and a side of butt salad."
The story goes that on "another adventury day" Hatty and HUNDREDS of friends were on this boat, but it wasn't a boat, "it was a ship! A veritable Friend-ship it was! Get it?" They were off for an adventure when they encountered a freak storm (twice) and crash landed on an island. "AS FORETOLD BY THEIR FATEBOOKS OF...FATE!" Basically, without giving any spoilers the story goes that something happens to Hatty and he turns evil. You are tasked with rescuing all of your friends and escaping this horrible place. Although this prison is unusual, you can pay to unlock and free your friends and also pay for new weapons. What kind of prison lets you have weapons, or free prisoners for that matter????
BattleBlock's game mechanics are simple but they work well for the story. Each level is setup like a twisted stage production. Featuring side scrolling 2D action as well as plenty of hazards along the way. There's buzz saws, lasers, giant rabid mutated raccoons, robots, cats you name it!!! The levels are challenging as well. I swear that toward the end of the game i spent more time on one of the levels than the developers did. I was determined though and i soldiered through. Holy shit am i glad that I did. I had a blast.

The humor is something I found amazing in this game. Its so simple and dumb sounding that I couldn't stop laughing. The first cutscene is what really sold me though, good god that is my favorite opening EVER! I felt like a small child throughout the game, because all cutscenes are staged like a puppet show and i couldn't wait to see the next one! Even when you mess up in a level the narrator chimes in with "Oh my goodness gracious!" or "Wait you died there? Pft". Even people who have the personality of a wet piece of toast on the beach can enjoy the humor in this game. Did I forget to mention that Behemoth made ALL THEIR OWN SONGS for this game? In the final scenes for the levels you are faced with a timed scene. In this scene the song goes something like this "meow meow meow meow, MEA SEE? MEOW! MEEEEEAAWW SEEEEEEEEE!" Its glorious. There's even a custom song for the secret levels, but I'm not gonna share that one with you!
All in all I freaking love this game! The art style of Behemoth is always beautifully simplistic to me and the way they put it all together was top notch. I would highly recommend getting this game if you haven't already. Play through to the end, it was so worth it! I can't wait to see what Behemoth will churn out next, I am now a fan for life. Support our independent developers, and support indie games like this one, they are the future of what we will call entertainment. I give this game a whopping ELEVENTY out of 10. So thats 11ty/10
